When I’m really lucky, it’s like a cloud; no such thing as discrete notes.  Most of the time it just feels like pushing buttons though.

Accepting Criticism

There seems to be a fairly high standard deviation in the way members of the general population accept criticism.  Some people don’t even listen to it; they shut off completely; their egos get hurt.  Others seek it out and absorb it; they contemplate it; they implement changes.

I am really impressed by those people who can take criticism, run with it, improve from it, be thankful for it, and give back by providing thoughtful criticism of their own.

The trick to accepting criticism is to be comfortable enough with yourself to absorb it beyond the ego-centric framework your mammalian brain brings to the table.  Instead you must objectively analyze the new ideas being introduced.  In many cases things will have to be stored for later processing because, as we all know, the brain likes to do a lot of background processing that takes years and one of the best forms of knowledge — “intuition” — is the result of that background processing.  Very hard to predict.

Just remember: we aren’t limited to our brain alone.  We’re swimming in a sea of brains on this planet in 2010.  We just have to *listen* to the language those brains produce.
